NHMC Joins Public Rally Demanding NBCUniversal Cancel Trump’s SNL Invitation

Petitions Signed By More Than 522,000 Individuals Delivered To NBCUniversal

Alex Nogales rallyNew York, NY – Today, Alex Nogales, President & CEO of the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC), joined several other Latino leaders at a public rally to deliver over half a million signature this evening urging NBCUniversal rescind their invitation to Donald Trump to host Saturday Night Live on November 7th. Multiple public-interest organizations and over 100 enthusiastic private citizens from all over the country participated in a rally in front of the Comcast Building at 30 Rockefeller Center in New York City. Nogales told members of the press, “Saturday Night Live is not a news entity, it is a pop culture giant, and should not be in the business of giving acceptance and legitimacy to the views of a racist extremist by having him host a program. To do so is insensitive and will contribute to the wave of bigotry he is creating.” SNL protestorsThe rally included members and leaders from America’s Voice, Color of Change, Hispanic Organization of Latin Artists (HOLA), Justice League NYC, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP), National Council of La Raza (NCLR), National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts and many more. Earlier today, NHMC sent a letter addressed to NBCUniversal CEO Stephen Burke and SNL Executive Producer Lorne Michaels, which was also co-signed by 24 other national organizations, requesting the removal of Trump. “As it has been widely reported, Mr. Trump has consistently offended and marginalized the Latino population by calling us rapists and criminals, insulted the leaders of Mexico and the rest of Latin America, and by threatening to deport by force all Latinos residing in the country without documentation,” Nogales added. NHMC has been extremely active in advocating against Trump’s hateful rhetoric toward the Latino community. NHMC had applauded NBC Universal earlier this year when the company cut ties with Trump in the wake of his anti-Latino comments. This past July, NHMC successfully petitioned the Professional Golf Association to remove their 2015 PGA Grand Slam of Golf from the Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles.]]>
