NHMC Empowers Online Creators of Color at Take Creative Control LA

The National Hispanic Media Coalition’s Policy Counsel, Daiquiri Ryan, moderated a panel entitled Owning Our Narratives at Take Creative Control LA at Vector90 in Los Angeles, California on March 29, 2019. The event was one stop in a nationwide tour set out by the Institute for Intellectual Property and Social Justice to educate creators on protecting their work. Panelists included Elosi Ikharo of AFROPUNK, Lilly Workneh of Blavity News, Beleaf of popular YouTube channel Beleaf in Fatherhood, and Safiya Umoja Noble of the University of California Los Angeles. Ms. Ryan guided the Owning Our Narratives panel through issues like the importance of diversity in media, authentic storytelling, and how access to a free and open internet can empower our communities to flourish. The event also featured information on how creators can get involved in supporting the Save the Internet Act which would restore net neutrality. NHMC is proud to have partnered with Take Creative Control, featuring successful artists, entrepreneurs, and creators of color.
