Statement on Behalf of Brenda Victoria Castillo, President and CEO, National Hispanic Media Coalition on 2024 Golden Globe Nominations

The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) sends a huge congratulations to all nominees for this year’s Golden Globe Awards, announced by NHMC Visionary Alliance member, Wilmer Valderrama. We send our congratulations to Pedro Pascal on his nomination for his incredible performance in The Last of Us, Colman Domingo on his nomination for his dynamic performance in Rustin, Selena Gomez on her nomination for her stellar performance in Only Murders in the Building, and to the team behind the best-animated motion picture nominee Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

The performances of this year’s diverse group of nominees – from Lily Gladstone for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, Fantasia Barrino in The Color Purple, Greta Lee in Past Lives and many othersare further proof to leaders and studios throughout entertainment that stories from diverse casts can be successful, lucrative, and worthy of recognition on one of Hollywood’s biggest stages.

We celebrate these achievements, yet also reaffirm our commitment to promoting and advocating for Latinidad on all screens where people consume content and in all spaces where key decisions are made. Latinidad in entertainment is not just important for an inclusive society, it is also good for business – Latinos are among the populations with the strongest buying power in the U.S., accounting for more than 25% of all tickets sold at the box office.

Yours in the movement,

Brenda Victoria Castillo

President and CEO
