The City of Whittier and the California Comedy Hall of Fame presents the 2nd Annual Whittier Comedy Film Festival on October 17th–18th, 2026.
The two-day festival will celebrate the best of comedy and entertainment through film screenings, workshops, special red-carpet events, and more at the Shannon Center for the Performing Arts and Starlight Theatre.
The festivities will kick off with a Gala and Opening Night celebration on October 16th, followed by screenings and programming throughout October 17th–18th and a closing awards ceremony on October 18th.
From new comedies to classics and standout films across genres, the festival promises a weekend filled with film, laughter, and entertainment.

From Cannes-winning directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi — popularly known as Los Javis — La Bola Negra follows three generations of men across pivotal moments in Spanish history, bound by pain, desire, and love. Carlos (Milo Quifes) longs to belong in a fractured Spain. Sebastián (Guitarricadelafuente) finds connection across enemy lines. And Alberto (Carlos González) uncovers a long-buried family secret — one that finally gives voice to truths the past tried to erase.
The film also stars Academy Award winner Penélope Cruz, Glenn Close, and Miguel Bernardeau and recently won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Award-winning actress and NHMC Visionary Alliance member, Gina Torres, is stepping onto the Broadway stage for the Tony-Award winning musical Buena Vista Social Club! She will portray legendary Cuban singer Omara Portuondo.
Reflecting on her connection to the production, Torres shared, “I fell in love with the show and everyone in it when I first saw it. Being first-generation Cuban American, it resonated on so many levels. I grew up listening to these songs.”
The musical is inspired by true events and the GRAMMY Award-winning Buena Vista Social Club album. The musical brings the story of Cuba’s iconic musicians to the Broadway stage through music, dance, and storytelling.

The 37th AFI Latin American Film Festival in Silver Spring, Maryland is here from September 16th - October 7th.
This is one of North America’s largest and longest-running showcases of Latin American cinema. The festival is one of Washington DC’s top cultural events. There will be films, in-person conversations with filmmaker guests and parties hosted by embassies who sponsored films.

Something Followed Us Home is a collection of tales of Latine horror and will be released September 29th!
This horror anthology features stories by 17 Latine authors including Agustina Bazterrica, Isabel Cañas, and Xochitl Gonzalez. Each story has a different center, from immigration, colonization, faith, and folklore. In their own way, each highlights the fears we inherit, carry across borders, and pass down through generations.
