The Compton Film Festival is a dynamic two-day celebration of film, creativity, and community, dedicated to amplifying emerging filmmakers and showcasing diverse voices in storytelling. 

Now in its third year, TCFF continues to grow as a platform that not only highlights powerful independent films but also creates meaningful opportunities for connection, education, and inspiration within the creative community.

Horror fans have a new obsession!

Obsession (2026), directed and written by Curry Barker, is one of the latest horror films making waves in theaters, led by a breakout performance from Latina actress, Inde Navarrette.

Navarrette, who is of Mexican and Australian descent, takes center stage in the film’s lead role and has been earning major praise from audiences following the movie’s release. Obsession opened May 15 to a 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and has rapidly built momentum online among horror fans for its psychological tension, suspense, and performances.

Masters of the Universe is officially heading to the big screen!

The upcoming live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe stars Camila Mendes as Teela, the fierce warrior and captain of Eternia’s royal guard. Mendes, who is of Brazilian descent, joins a star-studded cast alongside Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man. The film is directed by Travis Knight.

Many fans online have already been praising early looks at Mendes as Teela, with them calling her one of the standout casting choices for the anticipated reboot.

Kick off the summer with a classic romcom from home! Jennifer Lopez returns to the genre with Office Romance, the upcoming romantic comedy premiering Friday, June 5th exclusively on Netflix.

The film stars Lopez alongside Brett Goldstein and follows two coworkers whose professional relationship slowly turns into something much more complicated. Fans online are already excited to see JLo step back into the romcom space that helped define so many fan-favorite films throughout the 2000’s.

Office Romance adds another leading role to Lopez’s decades-long career as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable Latina actresses and entertainers. Don't miss it!

Muñeca by Cynthia Gómez releases on June 2, 2026 and is a surreal Gothic fantasy about a queer Latine witch from a working-class background whose attempt to break a curse leads her into obsession, power, and forbidden love.

Set in 1968 Oakland, the story follows Natalia Fuentes, who becomes convinced that a mysterious paralysis affecting heiress Violeta Miramontes is the result of dark magic. Looking for answers and a reward, she takes a position as Violeta’s caretaker and steps into the world of the Miramontes family.

The novel mixes gothic horror, fantasy, and romance while exploring class and the cost of power, through a story where magic is tied to memory, trauma, and survival.

Monarchs in the Wild by Israel Moya releases on June 2, 2026 and is a YA coming-of-age mystery about a Mexican American teen trying to survive grief, suspicion, and the pressure of being seen as a nobody in a small rural town.

Set in 1994 in La Sombra, California, the story follows seventeen-year-old Cal “California” Garcia, who is constantly judged by his scar, his reputation, and the idea that he does not belong. When he finds the body of Nora, the school’s valedictorian, near the railroad tracks, his life immediately shifts.

As the town turns its attention toward him, Cal becomes a person of interest in Nora’s suspicious death. What follows is his attempt to clear his name while navigating a place that already decided who he is.

The novel explores grief, identity, and survival in a working-class Mexican American community, and what it means to grow up in a place that keeps narrowing your future.
