2015 TV Writers Program
The NHMC Television Writers Program is a direct response to the lack of diverse writers in TV, and it invites all Latino TV writers, who want to hone their skills, to apply for the five-week workshop. The workshop focuses on writing an original TV pilot or a spec episode of a current TV series, conducted in an environment that simulates a TV writers room.
Preserving Net Neutrality — That’s What We Are Fighting For!
On June 12, a long-sought battle for NHMC finally came to fruition when the FCC’s Net Neutrality rules, went into effect. The new rules will prevent providers from blocking, throttling or creating paid fast lanes within your internet connection. NHMC also is proud to report that on June 11, the District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals rejected a motion from a handful of Internet service providers to stay the net neutrality rules. The stay, had it been granted, would have prevented the rules from taking effect until legal challenges are resolved.
This is a huge victory for net neutrality; however, there are still pending lawsuits seeking to overturn the rules. In addition to the court actions, the new rules face push back from several Republican members of Congress, who have introduced bills seeking to overturn the rules and/or limit the FCC’s authority to enforce them.
NHMC has been active on Capitol Hill for the past few weeks and will continue to be in order to educate policymakers about their important role in ensuring an even-playing field is maintained online for Latinos and other consumers.
