Testimonials from our Youth:

Personally I was entertained by PR work and found PR work very interesting since I like a fast-paced environment and don’t mind if I’m working around behind the scenes. I honestly enjoyed the event and found the event informative. I even had FUN at the event because I made new friends and met up with the other members of Kollab youth that I had only seen on screen. If I had the choice or chance to go again I would!

Testimonials from our Guest Speakers:

As a speaker for NHMC’s Careers in Entertainment Youth Program, I was privileged to share the things I wish I would have known when I was younger and as I worked to break into this tough industry.

Real tips and knowledge that aren’t always pretty but the ones these young people deserve to know, which will hopefully better prepare them for the world ahead. However, what I enjoyed more was being able to connect personally with the kids participating, having them ask incredible questions during my segment, and having time for  real one-on-one conversations with them -  something I don’t usually see during programs similar to this one.

Being able to see themselves in us makes what we do tangible and that can be just the motivation they need to believe in themselves. Each conversation shaped my understanding of each child, their background, and upbringing. I got to know them at a deeper level and was able to provide them with specific advice rather than general tips. I praise organizations like NHMC for celebrating the youth in our community and knowing they are the future.

Showing up as a young professional who is committed to my career was important to me! It helped the students understand that accomplishing goals can be a rigorous process, but it is attainable and there is success along the way. It was exciting to learn that some students were familiar with PR and eager to chat afterward about the field. Many were comfortable enough to engage, ask questions, and share ideas with the group.

I identified with the students’ approaches to the program: some simply taking in new information, while some were already figuring out how to apply the information. Each one in their own stages of career exploration.

It was encouraging to see a diverse group of participants, from so many different backgrounds and cultures, share their various interests during my session and be involved in such a meaningful day. I myself am Black, with no Latino heritage, but am always passionate about supporting Black and Brown people.
