The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) hosted their latest Building Community episode, focused on various creators in an inspiring conversation on Latino representation in the imaginative worlds of science fiction and fantasy. This panel featured an engaging mix of discussion and talent who shared their journeys, dreams, and insights into media. Watch now on NHMC’s YouTube Channel.

NHMC would like to introduce four panelists involved in the dreamy and imaginative worlds of science fiction and fantasy. Panelists reflected on their experiences playing iconic characters from various shows such as Fox’s Lucifer, Disney+’s Ashoka, CW’s The 100, and Syfy’s The Magicians. Hosted by IndieWire’s Marcus Jones, come and learn more about addressing industry challenges, dreaming big, and future projects.

“Hollywood’s continued issues with diversity, equity, and inclusion have long been a pain point, especially considering how the resistance to it has proven to leave money on the table. But with respect to the Latino community in particular, which itself is an umbrella for various racial identities, there has been a noticeable uptick in the science fiction and fantasy genres.

Currently airing blockbuster series like “The Last of Us” and “Andor” have multiple Latino leads front and center, with shows like “Wednesday” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” also bringing representation forward in spaces where Latinos were once excluded.”
