<![CDATA[The Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) Appropriations Bill, 2017 is set to soon be considered on the House floor. On June 9, the House Appropriations committee approved a funding bill along party lines that could diminish the power of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to protect consumers, encourage media ownership diversity and localism, and establish much-needed industry competition. These attacks threaten to eliminate the openness that has allowed the Internet to become our greatest engine of economic growth and personal expression, destroy efforts to limit media consolidation, and preclude the FCC from creating set-top box market competition that could reduce consumer prices and promote programming diversity.
