Rocsi Diaz Announces Winners of the Rising Creators Project Programming Competition, Joint Project by the National Hispanic Media Coalition and BabyFirst

Rising Creators Project,” a Latino-inspired programming competition which invited emerging Latino talent including writers, musicians, animators and producers to submit their idea or existing children’s TV series for consideration. Host and TV personality Rocsi Diaz came out to support and celebrate the winning project, Team Abuelita by the hardworking, writers/producers Zoila Amelia Galeano and Jennifer Dornbush. Team Abuelita chronicles a superhero and her team of niños, who save the day from situations including bullies and rival siblings. The winning producers will work with the network’s production team to create their content or fine-tune their existing work before it premieres on BabyFirst for a two-year run. The winners will also fully own the rights to the series and will be entitled to 50% of revenues the series directly generates across platforms other than the BabyFirst network. During the ceremony, Sharon Rechter, EVP, Business Development and Distribution of BabyFirst spoke about how influential the partnership with NHMC has been, and touched upon the impact that the “Rising Creators Project” competition will have for the TV network, who has been devoted to delivering high-quality child development programming to tots and their parents in more than 52 million households. “This contest has demonstrated the great depth of the Latino talent pool which is truly spectacular,” said Alex Nogales, President and CEO of NHMC. Nilda Muhr, Director of Programs and Special Events for NHMC also shared her sentiments about the competition, expressing how important this type of programming is not only for children but also for Latino content producers. Following their remarks, the winning team that had been selected by an esteemed panel of judges, including Dora the Explorer and Grey’s Anatomy writer Maria Escobedo, and Sprout consultant and children’s program writer Ligiah Villalobos, was presented with congratulatory plaques and enjoyed the afternoon with Rocsi Diaz and the judges, mingling and enthusiastically discussing their future plans for Team Abuelita’s success.]]>
