PASADENA, Calif. -- On Tuesday, Yahoo released data revealing the underrepresentation of Latinos in the company's workforce. Latinos make up only 4% of Yahoo's employees in the United States. The company joins Google and LinkedIn as the latest tech company in recent weeks to publicly release data on employment diversity.

The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC), which works in part to ensure Latino inclusion in the media and telecommunications industries, has long requested that tech companies share their employment numbers and commit to recruiting more Latinos into their workforces.

The following statement can be attributed to Alex Nogales, president and CEO of NHMC:

"Yet another tech company reveals what we all knew to be true: there is a lack of diversity across this sector. As with Google and LinkedIn, I applaud Yahoo's transparency as an important first step to becoming inclusive of this country's diversity. It is critically important for all tech companies to recruit and tap into the pool of Latino talent found throughout the nation -- and NHMC commits to ensure this happens. In the next week, we will be setting up meetings with the leadership of these companies to discuss how NHMC can help them achieve employment diversity."
