Get ready to meet Kevin, the housecat who decides that he’s done with humans.

Kevin is a new adult animated series coming to Prime Video on April 20th. When his human “owners” unexpectedly break up, Kevin makes a decision of his own: he’s breaking up with them too. He leaves home and moves into a local pet rescue, in which a band of misfit animals helps navigate independence and what he truly wants out of life.

The series was written and produced by NHMC’s Visionary Alliance member, Aubrey Plaza, and stars Joe Wengert, who also serves as showrunner.

A new film about, produced by, and starring Latinas has arrived in Hollywood.

The film Valentina blends narrative and documentary storytelling to follow a young woman, Valentina, as she navigates identity and survival. Valentina, played by Keyla Monterroso Mejia, goes through a series of bureaucratic mishaps while trying to complete a simple to-do list at the El Paso–Juárez border, highlighting the realities of life, culture, and economic challenges in the region.

This independent film is directed by Tatti Ribeiro and executive produced by Jessica Alba and Tracey Nyberg through Lady Metalmark Entertainment, which also shines a light on the barriers Latina creatives face in Hollywood.

New York Times bestselling author Xochitl Gonzalez is set to release her new book, Last Night in Brooklyn

The novel follows 26-year-old Alicia Canales Forten, who feels trapped between expectation and desire, caught in a life that no longer excites her. After a night out in Brooklyn, she becomes drawn to this new, vibrant world.

The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival is an annual international event dedicated to the exhibition of nonfiction cinema. Each spring, Full Frame welcomes filmmakers and film lovers from around the world. The festival is a program of Duke University’s Center for Documentary Studies

This year, the festival will be showcasing more than 60 films alongside parties, panels, and more. Among these are projects from standout Latino creators. 

  • American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez: A documentary on Luis Valdez and his fight to bring Chicano stories to the stage and screen, creating classics like Zoot Suit and La Bamba.
  • Jaripeo: Set in the rodeos of Michoacán, this film explores masculinity, queer identity, memory, and what it means to long for a home you’ve left behind.
  • La Tierra del Valor (The Home of the Brave): During a summer marked by grief and fear following immigration raids in Los Angeles, a single act of courage sparks hope within a community.
  • A Child of My Own: Alejandra fakes a pregnancy to meet expectations, but the lie quickly spirals into a scandal she can’t control.
  • Failure Is a River of Mine: Mari, Maricielo, and Iker seem unconnected, but their lives are quietly linked through shared struggles and small moments of hope.

This year’s lineup runs from April 16th - April 19th at the Durham Convention Center in Durham, North Carolina. Availability following the festival will vary by film, depending on distribution deals made during or after the festival.

Inner Wave, the Latin alternative indie-pop band from Los Angeles, California, just released their fifth studio album, See You When I Get Back. The band describes the album as deeply personal and reflective. The album explores maturity, change, growth, and memory, and they look back on relationships, life transitions, and the emotional highs and lows of years on tour.

Alongside the album, Inner Wave released their first feature film, See You When I Get Back (2026). Starring the band, the film follows a struggling group on the brink of burnout, but then their pursuit of success takes a supernatural twist. The band discovers a mysterious orb that grants three wishes. Their dreams suddenly feel within reach, but every wish comes with a terrifying cost, leading to a comical yet chilling journey into ambition and consequence.

The Center for Asian Pacific American Women (CAPAW) is dedicated to nurturing leaders by expanding leadership capacity, fostering awareness of critical issues, building supportive networks, and strengthening communities.

CAPAW is accepting applications for the 2026 sHERO Discovery Program. This is an empowering leadership experience designed for women of color with five years or less of professional experience. The goals are to:

  • Increase level of self-confidence and make conscious choices about (she/her/hers/they/them) personal and professional life.
  • Make a positive social impact as a collective cohort.
  • Influence/Support others for success. Success as defined by the individual.
  • Learn about relationship mastery and how the individual can affect their own career(s).

Each cohort will include 16 women. Each cohort can participate in a two-part program, with Part 1 offered twice, followed by Part 2. The first cohort for Part 1 begins on April 7, 2026, and the second begins on September 15, 2026.

The program runs for three months and takes place on Zoom. Sessions are held every other Tuesday from 6:30–7:45 PM ET (1 hour and 15 minutes). As part of the program, participants are required to create and implement a project that positively impacts their communities by addressing issues related to racism.Check out all the details on their website - Apply now for Phase 1!

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is a social justice organization that advocates and litigates for civil rights. They have opened up their 2026 NAACP Cinematic Shorts Competition in partnership with Adobe

This competition will take place during the 117th NAACP National Convention in Chicago, IL, from July 16th – 22nd.  This competition will give six filmmakers the opportunity to produce a short film addressing issues of social justice. The winning filmmakers will each be awarded a $10K budget to produce a short film in conjunction with the NAACP Hollywood Bureau and NAACP+ Studios. 

Requirements:

  • Must be between the ages of 18-29 by April 17, 2026.
  • Must submit one creative sample (short film, commercial or photography) that demonstrates your skill set as a filmmaker.
  • Must submit a written personal biography 150-200 words.
  • Must submit a written statement between 250-300 words answering ONE of the essay questions on the application.
  • Must provide your own transportation to and from Chicago, IL, for the competition. (Local hotel accommodations will be provided for selected filmmakers/activists).
