Statement on Behalf of Brenda Victoria Castillo, President and CEO, National Hispanic Media Coalition on 2025 EMMY Awards Nominations
The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) elevates and celebrates diverse actors and stories nominated for a 2025 EMMY Award by the Television Academy. At the same time, NHMC calls on the voting members of the Television Academy to address the concerning decline in diverse representation and increase the percentage of diverse actors recognized in the main acting categories.
NHMC applauds and extends special congratulations to Impact Award Honoree Colman Domingo (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, The Four Seasons), Liza Colón-Zayas (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, The Bear), Pedro Pascal (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama series, The Last of Us), and Lorena Perez Batista (Outstanding Sound Editing For A Comedy Or Drama Series, The Studio) who participated in NHMC and AppleTV+’s Latinx Celebration and Panel.
We also congratulate NHMC Visionary Alliance Member Harvey Guillén, who had the distinct honor of announcing the nominations from the Television Academy.
However, in a time when our existence is being erased, challenged, and attacked, this is a moment to elevate more inclusive and welcoming stories from underrepresented communities – and the actors who are featured in them. With so many series and projects led by people of color, our Latino community deserves to be seen, heard, and recognized for their excellence.
The voting members of the Television Academy fell short this year, with their worst showing for actors of color in the last 5 years.
Our Latino community is filled with avid media consumers, buying more movie tickets and subscribing to more online streaming services and video-on-demand than any other group. Last year, Latinos accounted for 24% of the box office ticket sales and 24% of streaming subscribers, while being 19% of the US population. The voting members of the Television Academy have a responsibility to recognize more than 25% of our stories in a year, now more than ever.
Yours in the Movement,

Brenda Victoria Castillo
