Demand U.S. FCC & Congress Expand Broadband and Lifeline Access during COVID-19 Crisis

As the country’s unemployment rate skyrockets due to the COVID-19 pandemic, American families are struggling to make ends meet. Families should not have to choose between essential internet connection and groceries. Access to the internet should not be a luxury that divides the haves and the have-nots. Latinos, who already disproportionately do not have access to the internet at home, need reliable, affordable access to broadband and other communications services.  That’s why the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) is partnering with Access Now, Common Sense, Media Justice, National Digital Inclusion Alliance, Open Technology Institute, Public Knowledge, and Libraries Without Borders to launch a petition urging Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai and Congress to expand access to the internet and the Lifeline program.  Our community urgently needs broadband access to work, learn, and connect online during and in the wake of this pandemic. Join us in this fight by signing our petition and sharing our campaign online and through your networks.

TAKE ACTION NOW!

National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) is a woman-led 501(c)(3) non-profit, nonpartisan, civil and human rights organization that was founded to eliminate hate, discrimination, and racism toward Latino and marginalized communities.

We educate and increase Latino visibility from our policy work in Washington, D.C., to our media advocacy work in Hollywood, where we connect, collaborate, and create with talent within the entertainment industry.

We lead the work to eliminate online hate and disinformation across media platforms. We advocate for the Affordable Connectivity Program, Lifeline Program, Net Neutrality protections, and closing the digital divide for Latino and other marginalized communities. NHMC works in partnership with other social justice organizations to safeguard democracy in the United States of America.
