CBS Criticized Again

In May, LA Times writer Greg Braxton wrote an article regarding the lack of diversity in CBS’ fall television lineup, specifically a lack of people of color and women. Braxton wrote, “CBS has been continually blasted by viewers and advocacy groups for its formula of casting mostly white actors in leading roles while nonwhites are largely relegated to supporting characters.” This past weekend, it was revealed that Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park of the hit series “Hawaii Five-0” had quit the series. The issue? CBS refused to pay their Asian stars the same as their white costars. The lack of diversity at CBS isn’t new. In 2014, the National Latino Media Council (NLMC) released their 2014 NLMC Television Network Diversity Report, criticizing CBS for their lack of Latino talent. “In 2017, the fact that we’re still fighting for equal and fair representation on a major television network is extremely problematic and changes must come about,” said Alex Nogales, President & CEO of NHMC.
