<![CDATA[On August 31st, 17 organizations, including NHMC, signed a shared statement of six civil rights concerns that address the flaws in predictive policing tools. These tools attempt to forecast future crimes by identifying where the crime will occur and who will be involved. Yet, these tools are “systematically biased against communities of color and allows for unconscionable abused of police power.” A report released by Upturn, a technology and policy firm, provides a more in-depth look at these predictive policing tools finding “a number of key risks in predictive policing, and a trend of rapid, poorly informed adoption in which those risks are often not considered.” To read the press release from The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, click here.]]>
