NHMC Asks Congress to Defend Lifeline

NHMC applauded the FCC for expanding Lifeline to include broadband. NHMC urged Congress to oppose any anti-Lifeline legislative efforts. Yesterday, the House rejected the End Taxpayer Funded Cell Phones Act, introduced by Rep. Austin Scott, which would have eliminated mobile service from Lifeline. The Lifeline program was expanded to include mobile services under the George W. Bush administration. Within the letter, NHMC and its allies detailed the many ways Lifeline benefits low-income communities, which include opportunities for educational attainment, employment, and civic engagement. A supporter of Lifeline for nearly a decade, NHMC has played an active role in the modernization effort, filing comments and reply comments. https://www.nhmc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Oppose-Attacks-on-Lifeline-Letter-6-21-20164-1.pdf]]>
