Newly Formed Latino Representation in Gaming Coalition Announced by National Latino-Serving Orgs and Rep. Joaquin Castro

Group seeks more transparency, greater representation in industry and content, and inclusive and inviting environment for Latinos

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX), National Hispanic Media Coalition, Hispanic Heritage Foundation, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, MANA, Latinx in Gaming, Hispanic Association for Corporate Responsibility and Latino Corporate Directors Association and Estuardo Rodriguez announced the formation of the Latino Representation in Gaming Coalition (LRGC) at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, to an audience of Latino leadership, Capitol Hill Staff, video gaming representatives, and press.

LRGC’s purpose is to push for:

 - more transparency,
 - greater Latino representation in the  industry and leadership,
 - better representative content including narratives and depiction of Latino characters,
 - more development of and greater representation of Latino creators and developers,
 - a programmatic pipeline, and
 - fomenting an inclusive, inviting environment for Latinos interested in the industry.

Netflix Created by Initiative

To identify talent, NHMC joined forces with Netflix and five other leading organizations who are at the forefront of creating access to underrepresented creators within the industry. The program is designed to ensure underrepresented and historically excluded talent are set up for success beyond the writers’ room. The development deals provide these writers with the opportunity to go through the studio development process and hone their projects alongside Netflix executives from the series and film teams.
