NHMC Celebrates Unprecedented Diversity in 116th U.S. Congress

On January 3, 2019, NHMC welcomed members of the 116th United States Congress, the most diverse legislative body in U.S. history. NHMC’s policy team visited over 125 open houses for members of the Congressional Hispanic, Congressional Black, Congressional Asian Pacific American, and Progressive Caucuses. It was an opportunity to meet elected officials and introduce staffers to NHMC’s priorities. Likewise, it was an opportunity to celebrate wins for a diverse group of lawmakers who will have direct oversight in protecting digital rights and enforcing policies that impact Latino communities.

In 2019, NHMC will continue to advocate for expanding access to telecommunications, increasing awareness on the importance of Lifeline, educating how net neutrality helps preserve an open internet, and making strides in media diversity. Understanding privacy, eliminating hate speech, and highlighting the ongoing need to rebuild resilient telecommunications in Puerto Rico also remain at the core of NHMC’s portfolio.

National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) is a woman-led 501(c)(3) non-profit civil and human rights organization that was founded to eliminate hate, discrimination, and racism toward the Latino communities.
