We mourn the murder of George Floyd and every Black person murdered at the hands of police brutality and white supremacy. Our black brothers and sisters are entitled to life, liberty, and other inalienable rights systematically denied to them for more than two centuries. As a 34 year old civil rights and social justice organization, NHMC’s stance is clear: tu lucha es mi lucha.
Even as we stand and fight against police brutality and white supremacy, white supremacists are infiltrating our communities and discrediting the movement. Over the weekend, police officers ran over protestors with their vehicles, deployed ICE forces to detain immigrant protesters, tear gassed, maced, and shot rubber bullets at innocent and peaceful participants, used surveillance technologies to track and target activists, and arrested on-the-job, credentialed journalists.
NHMC will not sit idly by or stay neutral in the face of grave injustice and oppression. I urge each and every one of our supporters to reexamine their privilege and take action against racism and hate today and everyday.
