This week NHMC welcomed Marianna Elvira, a rising third year law student at Florida State University College of Law, in Washington, DC as our summer 2017 Google Public Policy Fellow. The Google Policy Fellowship is a highly-selective summer employment program. Google provides stipends to students to work on internet and technology issues at non-profit organizations, like NHMC.
Originally from Miami, FL, Marianna is pursuing her Juris Doctor. Marianna earned her B.S. in Psychology, Magna Cum Laude, with minors in Russian and Criminology from Florida State University. There she was part of the Honor Society Phi Kappa Phi and served on the board for The F-Word, an on-campus feminist group.
Marianna is devoted to empowering her community and is interested in the intersection of social justice, technology, and the law. She previously interned at Legal Services of North Florida, a legal aid clinic in Tallahassee that provides free assistance to low income people in the community. There she focused on immigration, family, and housing issues and provided personal attention to each client. She was a marketing manager at WebaTonic, a digital marketing agency for small businesses, where she created print and web designs, wrote press releases and guest posts, and handled administrative duties.
We are looking forward to having Marianna as part of the DC policy team, helping us fight to save net neutrality and preserve other telecommunications policies that benefit the Latino community. In her spare time, Marianna makes designs for her online store.
