NHMC Congratulates Stella Murga, the 2015 Racial Justice Award Recipient

Stella-Murga2The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) congratulates Stella Murga, Founder and Executive Director of the Adelante Youth Alliance, for being honored as the 2015 Racial Justice Award recipient by the YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley. The award will be given at the 13th annual Women for Racial Justice Breakfast on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel. Murga has worked tirelessly to improve racial justice in her community and all of Southern California. She was recently recognized by California State Assemblymember Chris Holden and also was named “Woman of the Year” for the 41st Assembly District. “Stella is a champion for Latino youth and her commitment towards equality for a higher education is unparalleled. Congratulations,” said Alex Nogales, NHMC President and CEO. Through Adelante Youth Alliance, a community-based nonprofit established in 2001 to prepare youth for college and careers, Murga runs three different programs providing services and addressing the needs of racial equality in educational and career opportunities. In addition, she also champions two annual conferences -- Adelante Mujer Latina Conference and Adelante Young Men Conference – offering middle and high school students the opportunity to take part in interactive, age-appropriate, educational workshops related to issues that affect their lives. Since 2002, the YWCA’s Women for Racial Justice Breakfast has brought together more than 500 of Pasadena’s most influential members of the business, civic, and philanthropic communities to share in our efforts to promote and support racial justice.
